FAQs
How do I obtain my marriage license?
Since this largely depends on your state and county laws, I encourage you to do a quick search on your local government’s website for specific instructions. In Maryland, you must apply for a marriage license in the county or city you will be married.
How soon should I apply for my license?
Many states have a waiting period from the time you apply for the license and the day you receive it. The waiting period in Maryland is 2 days, however we suggest that you apply at least three weeks in advance to account for any delays or necessary adjustments.
Who files the marriage license?
The officiant will present the clients with their signed marriage license, however based on the state the officiant or clients are responsible for submitting the marriage license according to state and county requirements.
How long is a marriage license valid?
Licenses filed in Maryland are valid for six months. If the time period elapses before your wedding, you may have to re-apply.
Can you officiate a wedding anywhere?
I am licensed to officiate in-person weddings within the entire United States of America, however certain states—like Virginia, New York and District of Columbia among others—require officiants register before legally performing weddings in that state. Most states, like Maryland, do not require such registration before performing weddings.
Do you perform interfaith/same-sex weddings?
YES! We gladly accommodate interfaith and same-sex couples like we do any other. If there are special considerations you would like us to be aware of, please make these known during our initial consultation.
